Manager, Financial Reporting

This established and growing real estate company in Toronto is looking for a new Manager of Financial Reporting. The reason the role is open is because the current person has been promoted.

Our client is a well-known company with a great name in the real estate industry in Toronto and across the country. The Finance Manager will play a pivotal role to support the accounting, financial analysis and preparation of the MD&A and financial statements along with many other exciting responsibilities.

The Finance Manager will work closely with the senior management on financial reporting, accounting and finance related matters.

Responsibilities

  • Review monthly reporting package with management including schedules, account analysis and variance analysis
  • Responsible for the monthly recording and analysis of corporate expenses
  • Assist in annual operating budgets and ongoing forecast
  • Assist in quarterly and annual financial audit
  • Responsible for corporate accounting to ensure timely close of month, quarter, and year ends
  • Understand and review intercompany loan agreements and prepare the journal entries associated with those loan agreements
  • Implement accounting policies and procedures into the SAP system including monitoring and reviewing of consolidated accounts
  • Assist in set up of new acquisitions in ERP system
  • Assist in system conversion and required system testing
  • Create and coordinate payment and funding processing
  • Coordinate and administer the lender underwriting process, including liaising directly with the lenders and answering their follow up questions on a timely basis
  • Calculate cost benefit analysis and model out financing options, including sensitivity analysis
  • Manage mortgage maturity and funding timelines
  • Prepare quarterly compliance reporting packages
  • Support the planning and execution of debt strategy
  • Maintain mortgage and debt maturity schedules
  • Assist in special projects

Requirements

  • Degree plus a CPA designation
  • Technically strong in accounting principles, procedures and reporting (knowledge of IFRS, consolidations, etc.).
  • Well-versed in public company statutory and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Well aware of the risks and opportunities presented by a publicly listed company
  • Strong knowledge of computer system applications including accounting and consolidation systems and Microsoft Office applications (EXCEL)
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines through effective time management
  • Excellent communication skills (in particular written) and comfortable dealing at all levels
  • Open-minded to new ideas and approaches as well as dealing with ambiguity

Senior Accountant

Responsibilities

  • Maintain appropriate controls and procedures and ensure integrity of financial information.
  • Work closely with the Controller team to understand their needs for accurate and timely source data and ensure compliance with financial guidelines and company policies.

  • Supporting Divisional Finance team with Joint Venture accounting as they work through complex accounting issues and ensure compliance with agreements.
  • Supporting Corporate Joint Venture team by completing pertinent schedules and providing information required for the partners’ reporting and annual joint venture audit.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of inter-company, investment, and joint venture equity. Ensure accurate and timely recording of funding and cash transfers between related parties.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma
  • CPA designation complete or nearing completion
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting role
  • Full-cycle accounting experience all the way to financial statement preparation
  • Knowledge of accounting and finance principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial-related reports
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Financial Controller

Our client is a growing Real Estate company located in Toronto. We are looking for an Accountant to handle commercial property accounting, payroll functions, invoicing, budgeting and forecasting and all accounting/finance functions for this small yet stable company. 

Reporting to the owners, the Controller will be given lots of freedom and flexibility which is a key selling feature. The owners are results-focused so as long as the work is getting done, they will give full autonomy to the Financial Controller. If you wish to start at 7am and leave early, totally fine. We are looking for a very trustworthy accountant due to the confidential nature of the work at hand. Responsibilities

  • Manage all accounting operations including billing (revenue recognition), A/R, A/P, GL and payroll.
  • Production of timely reports such as KPI’s, P&L’s, balance sheets and cash flow statements.  
  • Regular budget preparation, consolidation, and report variances 
  • Oversee cash flow, debt management, major equipment purchasing and financing
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant government bodies 
  • Generate financial statements to complete reporting packages (if required) which include all schedules (depreciation, straight-line rent, prepaid, etc.)  
  • Input the budget in Yardi and Excel, including all schedules to complete the final budget package (including amortization schedules)  
  • Complete the analysis of all capital costs incurred including continuity schedules

  • Prepare periodic journal entries, A/R adjustments, GST and HST reconciliation  
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliation 
  • Review of accounts payable, management fees, leasing fees, chargeback invoices to tenants  
  • Set up new leases in Yardi  
  • Prepare Annual Plans/quarterly reports including variance analysis 
  • Prepare year-end audit working paper files 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration
  • CPA designation would be an asset but is not necessary
  • Expertise with commercial property accounting
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience
  • Must have Yardi experience
  • Able to create and promote a positive and supportive working environment

This is a new position, offering someone who has either been working in development accounting, real estate accounting or property accounting, the opportunity to carve out a new position in the company. 

The Real Estate Accountant will play a foundational role in the preparation, analysis, and management reporting for a growing portfolio of properties and funds. Responsibilities will focus on full-cycle accounting, financial analysis, some tax and financial statement prep, along with fund accounting. Corporate Accountant

The position will have a heavy focus on preparing financial reports for the corporate entities and maintaining financial records of various investment entities.
