Like The Housing Market, Canada’s Job Market Remains Uncertain
When’s the best time to look for a job? Winchester’s Director, Neil Drew, offers his advice to this question, giving a recent insight into the candidate market. Though there’s some uncertainty, candidates should know that there’s a light at the end of their career tunnel (especially in the year’s upcoming quarters).
More people have been asking me when is the best time to look for a new job.
In this market, that’s sort of like asking when’s the best time to buy a house.
Much like the housing shortage, there’s currently a candidate shortage. The pandemic made it even harder to find new people. Employees are less likely to leave their jobs given the uncertainty.
But things are starting to open up around the world and in Canada.
When this happens, we expect that Canadians will have more confidence to rejoin the candidate market, like how more people put their houses up for sale when the snow melts in the spring.
There will still be a lot of opportunities as the job market is good, but I do expect more competition for the best jobs. So if you’re thinking you might want to change your job this year, it could be a good idea to start your search early before more people join the market in Q2/Q3.
